In a competitive town full of culinary and wine tasting options, it’s hard to find a place that will last a long time. But in the city of Las Vegas, in the Mandalay Bay Hotel Casino, you will find a restaurant and wine bar that has been around for over a decade. And in this town where new hotels and restaurants pop up constantly, it’s good to see one place remain and continue their excellence.
The place is called Aureole, it is located in the restaurant row at Mandalay Bay. There are many choices in this area of casino (burgers, pizzas from Wolfgang Puck and an amazing vodka bar), but Aureole has plenty of attractions plus a great food and wine menu.
Notice the word “attraction” because that’s what you get at Aureole. It is described as part high wire act and part wine tour. At Aureole, there is a four story wine shelf that is enclosed in a glass tower. “Wine Angels” or rather attractive wine waitresses are attached to lines that hoist them all the way to the top of the wine tower. From there, they pick out selected wines of guests. It is part stunt work and Cirque du Soleil, but of course the star of the show is all the vintage wines they have on display.
The menu at this five-star restaurant is your classic steak and seafood choices. Expect to pay top dollar for a two course meal full of some of the freshest and delectable dishes around. Your first course may consist of caviar, crab risotto, heart of romaine salad and octopus salad. Your choice of main course may be king salmon, NY strip loin, filet mignon, Alaskan halibut or rib-eye steak.
As stated, expect to pay top dollar for some of these dishes. This is one of Las Vegas’s most expensive restaurant with plates going at up to $70 and the caviar first dish going at $75. But with the great food and the beautiful wine angels attending to your wine needs, it’s all worth it.
You have many choices for food and wine in Las Vegas. And true to the city’s reputation, you will get more than that -- you will get a spectacle. So let’s say you get lucky and hit it big on the tables or on the slots, take a trip to Aureole. You’re going to be paying a lot, but it will be worth it for the steaks, the wine and the angels.
