The Best Time to Drink Wine

Editor: Priyanka Saxena on Jun 26, 2017

A study, which was probably a fun study, was conducted to determine what was the best time to drink wine. Given the large sample of people were men and women of drinking age were also working people, the average drinking time was at 7pm. So it looks like normal people, with normal jobs and normal families tend to come home and enjoy a bottle of wine at around 7pm.

This seems obvious as 7pm seems to be the normal time for dinner. But one interesting aspect of the study stated that men generally drank earlier than the women. As for days of the week, Wednesday seemed to be the day for most consumption while Monday and Tuesday were the days of sobriety. Wednesday evenings were generally considered by the study as the evenings to “treat” oneself.

On this website, we often believe drinking can happen at any time of the day. In moderation of course. So here are our recommendations for the best, budget wines to drink at certain times of the day.

1pm: You’re either on a lunch break at work or you just finished a round of golf and you’re hanging out in the country club. Maybe you’re having a quick lunch with friends after shopping. Perhaps you just woke up from an all nighter full of gambling and girls. So I’m thinking of a crisp wine that is sharp to the lips and tongue. Also a fruity wine, full of citrus scent that will wake up your palette and your olfactory senses. I prefer a Riesling. Specifically, Clean Slate, a personal favorite of mine.

7pm: You just got home from work or a long day of play. Perhaps you’re in the middle of a big project and you’re stressed. Maybe you had a long day working, taking care of the kids, driving around town or just going through the usual stresses that we all go through. For me, I’ll go with a beverage. Something sweet and not too strong that won’t knock me out cold and make me hungover the next day.

2am: Can’t sleep and you need to wake up in 4 hours. Maybe you’re at the club, at the casino at the bar and you want to pull an all-nighter. You want to loosen up or in the earlier situation, get knocked out. This is a good time for Merlot or a Shiraz. Something nice and deep that goes down well and you’ll feel something right away.

We’ve come to the conclusion that any time of the day is a good time to drink wine. Most people pair wines with food. This article, we are pairing wines with moods and certain times of the day. Make sure you don’t pair a wine while driving and while upset.
